Many of us are already working remotely due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Many have already planned to switch for better opportunities. However, being homebound, there spark questions of how to continue the job interview process during social distancing? Skype and Zoom are already the best options chosen by hiring managers in selecting the best marketing talent to steer their firm in the right direction.
So, if you too have to face an interview in future, below are some of the best tips that will help you prepare for the interview and sail through it like a pro.
1. Ensure Your Video, Audio, and Internet Connection are Working Properly
Test your video and audio right before the interview to ensure that there are no risks or embarrassment of technology issues during a conversation. Choose the location in your home where the internet connection is stable and that it does not disrupt your video.
2. A Distraction-Free Environment
Choosing a clutter-free, clear background that appears business-like and free of distractions. Never set the camera near windows or walls that have absurd pictures. Clear all the clutter off your desk. Eliminate anything that could draw the interviewer's away from you. A solid wall is always a better choice.
3. A Well-Lit Room
Lighting is important and you need to pay attention to it. See that your interviewer can see your face. Try a test video beforehand so that there is no casting of any shadows on your face. Lit the room with enough lights - one behind you, one on your right, and one on your left to create a glow around you.
4. Eye Contact Angle
Always position your camera exactly at eye-level, neither above nor below it. Practise speaking to the camera and not the screen. You do not want the camera looking up your nose, or the camera looking down at you. Sit at the proper angle.
5. Frame Yourself From The Chest Up
It is recommended that you show yourself from the waist or chest up so you don't look like a floating head. Also, maintain a proper distance from the camera. The top of your head down to your shoulders is the focal point. It is important that while communicating your emotion, your expression should show up effectively.
6. Dress to Impress
Dress the same as you would for an in-person interview. Look your best for the interview by grooming yourself up properly. Keep makeup natural-looking. Avoid wearing too much jewellery. Choose clothing colours that complement your skin tone and gels well with the background as well.
7. Your Body Language
Be aware of your body language. Proper body postures like sitting upright in confidence develop a positive impression on the interviewer. Be careful to keep your hand movements contained within the video frame. A pleasant facial expression with etiquettes and communication is always a plus. Try not to be nervous as if you look frozen or scared, there may be a possibility that they do not hire you.
Prepare yourself and just give your best.
